Judicial Commission of Pakistan recommends Justice Bajwa as judge of LHC

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday recommended the confirmation of Additional Judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa as a judge of the Lahore High Court, according to a monitored public feed based on Dawn Pakistan’s report.

The commission met under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi in the conference room of the Supreme Court building. During the session, members considered appointments against vacant posts in the Lahore High Court as well as proposed changes to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules, 2024.

According to the feed summary, the commission discussed the appointment of 10 judges to fill vacant positions in the Lahore High Court. It also took up a separate set of recommendations for the Balochistan High Court.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, who represent the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in the judicial commission, did not attend the meeting, the summary said.

By majority vote, the commission recommended 10 nominees as additional judges for the Lahore High Court. Those named were advocates Amir Ajam Malik, Asad Ali Bajwa, Barrister Muhammad Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema, Ghulam Sarwar Nihang, Khalid Ibn-i-Aziz, Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz, Munawar Iqbal Duggal, Shiren Imran and Syed Farhad Ali.

The commission also recommended three names for the Balochistan High Court: district and sessions judges Allah Dad Roshan and Abdul Qayyum Lehri, along with Advocate Muhammad Rauf Atta. The summary said the proposals on amendments to the rules would be circulated among the remaining commission members, including representatives of the Federal Shariat Court and the high courts, for review and approval.
