Uzbek Media Delegation Builds New Links During Pakistan Visit

ISLAMABAD, September 16, 2026: A nine-member Uzbek media delegation has met Pakistani diplomats and visited major broadcasters during an eight-day tour intended to strengthen professional and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The visiting journalists met Director General for Central Asia Hassan Ali Zaigham and other Foreign Office officials, who briefed them on regional developments and the two countries' relationship, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Pakistani officials highlighted the historical, religious and cultural links between the two countries, while the discussion also covered opportunities to expand trade and economic cooperation.

Zaigham said journalists and media organizations could help audiences better understand those shared links and the areas in which the two countries could work together. The delegation described the exchanges as an opportunity to develop direct professional contacts alongside formal diplomacy.

Inside Pakistan's media landscape

The delegation toured Pakistan Television and received briefings on the public broadcaster's newsroom, production and transmission operations. Its members also visited private networks SAMAA News and Hum News to observe their newsrooms and broadcasting facilities.

The programme is designed to provide the Uzbek journalists with a broader view of Pakistan's political, cultural, diplomatic and media environment. It also gives Pakistani and Uzbek media professionals a chance to discuss how television, digital outlets and social platforms shape public understanding of regional affairs.

The visitors began their programme at the Pakistan Monument and Faisal Mosque, two prominent Islamabad landmarks. They are also scheduled to visit Lahore, where the itinerary includes historic and cultural sites.

Media as a diplomatic bridge

Pakistan and Uzbekistan have been expanding engagement on trade, transport links and regional connectivity. Media exchanges can support that process by giving audiences in each country a clearer picture of the other's society, economy and foreign-policy priorities.

Direct contact between journalists may also lead to shared reporting projects, content exchanges and more regular coverage of bilateral developments. Such cooperation can broaden the relationship beyond official meetings and create durable links between institutions.

The visit reflects a wider use of cultural and media diplomacy to reinforce Pakistan's engagement with Central Asia. For the Uzbek delegation, the remaining stops will add Pakistan's historic and cultural centres to the diplomatic and broadcasting institutions already covered in Islamabad.
