A 5.5-magnitude earthquake in Peru’s Andes region has left at least six people dead, according to authorities, with more than 30 others injured and about 300 displaced after buildings collapsed near Sicaya.

The quake struck on Saturday at 9:24 p.m., the US Geological Survey said, placing the epicentre about 2 kilometers west-southwest of Sicaya in Huancayo province. The tremor was measured at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The reported damage included structural collapses in the area around Sicaya, contributing to the deaths and injuries. Authorities said the aftermath has also forced hundreds of residents from their homes.
