August is giving skywatchers a rare double reason to look up: a solar eclipse science window and the Perseid meteor shower peaking under dark new-moon skies. For NASA scientists, amateur astronomers and casual observers, that combination turns the week into one of the strongest astronomy moments of 2026.
NASA Science has highlighted the August total solar eclipse as an opportunity to study the Sun's outer atmosphere, known as the corona.
