QS 2027 Rankings Put MIT First as Asia Gains Ground

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has retained the top position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, leading a table that also highlights the growing presence of Asian institutions near the global top. Imperial College London and Stanford University share second place, followed by the University of Oxford in fourth and Harvard University in fifth.

QS published the 2027 edition on June 18, 2026, covering more than 1,500 universities. The ranking is widely used by prospective international students, universities and employers, but it should be treated as one comparison tool rather than a final verdict on the quality of a degree or a student's likely experience.

Who leads the 2027 university ranking

MIT received an overall score of 100. Imperial and Stanford each scored 99.2, while Oxford recorded 98.6 and Harvard 97.4.
