PM Shehbaz launches first AI-based digitisation platform to replace paper-based work in PMO

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday launched a new artificial intelligence-based digitisation platform for the Prime Minister’s Office, marking an effort to replace paper-based working with digital processes in the centre of government, according to a monitored public feed and a statement from the PMO.

The platform, called the Prime Minister Office System, was presented as a tool to modernise governance by tracking directives from the moment they are issued by the prime minister through implementation, verified completion and post-completion monitoring. Officials said the system is intended to improve communication across government and create a more structured record of decision-making.

The launch ceremony took place at the PMO and was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja and other senior officials. During the event, the prime minister received a detailed briefing on the platform, its features and its goals.

According to the PMO statement, the system is the first government platform in Pakistan to place artificial intelligence at the centre of decision-making and implementation monitoring. Officials described it as a “trailblazer” for digital transformation in the federal government. The briefing said the platform was developed at the heart of government to ensure that the prime minister’s directives are communicated efficiently throughout the administrative system and carried out in line with defined quality standards.

The platform was also described as a secure, technology-driven decision-support system that combines analytics and structured information within a protected IT environment. Officials said it would help the government make better use of technological, human and financial resources and allow for continuous policy adjustment aimed at improving outcomes.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Sharif directed relevant authorities to ensure the system is implemented immediately and in full. He said traditional file-based working would be replaced by digital processes. “From today onwards, I will not expect any of you in my office with a file in your hand. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism,” he said, according to the statement.

He also urged ministries and government departments to adopt the platform, saying it would strengthen the government’s ability to deliver results and make service delivery easier. The PMO said he praised IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Secretary IT Zarrar Hasham Khan for their efforts in developing and operationalising the system.

The briefing further said the platform includes a comprehensive digital repository that stores every directive issued by the prime minister along with the full chain of implementation, turning it into both an institutional knowledge base and a permanent record of government decisions. Unlike conventional tracking systems, it can read, classify and analyse directives using AI rather than simply storing them.

The launch comes amid a broader push on artificial intelligence in Pakistan. Last week, Pakistan became a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation after Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed the agreement in Shanghai. In February, Mr Sharif said the government planned to invest $1 billion in the country’s AI sector by 2030.
