The contest was part of the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, which included seats in Muzaffarabad division and 12 seats reserved for refugees from India-occupied Kashmir.
PML-N takes LA-27 Kutla
In LA-27 Kutla, PML-N candidate Noreen Arif won with 18,919 votes. She defeated Sardar Tabarak Ali of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party by 298 votes, while PPP candidate Sardar Javed Ayoub finished second runner-up with 18,037 votes.
PPP wins LA-28 Lachhrat
The PPP claimed the other delayed seat through Syed Bazil Ali Naqvi, who received 28,214 votes in LA-28 Lachhrat. PML-N candidate Chaudhry Shahzad Mahmood came second with 26,866 votes. Syed Yasir Hussain Naqvi of the All Jammu and Kashmir Conference was third with 873 votes.
The Election Commission also notified returned candidates for the remaining seats contested in the second phase, while the broader tally showed the PML-N leading the field. Its total rose to 24 seats, compared with 10 for the PPP.
That result reflects the party position after the first phase in Mirpur division, where the PML-N won nine of the 13 seats and the PPP won four. Following Sunday’s second-phase polling, the PML-N added 14 more seats, while the PPP added five.
What comes next in the AJK election cycle
The final phase of the AJK elections is scheduled for August 10 in Poonch division, where 11 seats will be contested. With the Muzaffarabad results now confirmed, the PML-N remains ahead in the overall race, while the PPP has strengthened its showing as the election process moves toward its last round.
The delayed polling in Muzaffarabad also highlighted how weather and access issues can complicate election administration in mountainous areas. In this case, however, the official count has now settled two closely watched constituencies and advanced the broader AJK election process.
