PM Shehbaz says Pakistan made 'remarkable progress' in indigenous autonomous capabilities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan has made “remarkable progress” in building indigenous autonomous capabilities, especially in the defence and security sectors.

He was speaking at the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Expo 2026, taking place on Wednesday and Thursday at the Pak-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad. According to the monitored public feed, the prime minister highlighted the country’s growing use of locally developed technology and said the armed forces had adopted advanced systems that were on display at the event.

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan had made notable advances in developing indigenous autonomous capabilities under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He described the progress as significant and praised the technologies showcased at the expo.

The prime minister also said he inspected simulators that were “100 per cent manufactured and assembled in Pakistan,” underscoring domestic production in the sector. He added that drones had reached 60 per cent indigenisation, while several other important machines were also being made in the country.

In his remarks, Shehbaz referred to the role of the armed forces in protecting Pakistan’s physical and cyber frontiers through the use of advanced autonomous systems. He said this effort had been led by the CDF and supported by the air and naval chiefs.

The comments came as the government continues to emphasise local capability development in areas linked to defence, robotics and automation. Based on the monitored public feed, the prime minister framed the progress as evidence of Pakistan’s ability to field homegrown systems alongside imported technologies.
