A US technology company has put forward a proposal to help modernise and expand Pakistan’s refinery sector, according to a finance ministry statement after a meeting in Washington between Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and a Honeywell Technologies delegation.
The meeting, held on Monday, included Honeywell Vice President and General Manager Barry Glickman, the ministry said. Aurangzeb welcomed the company’s proposed plan and described it as one that could strengthen Pakistan’s domestic refining capacity while reducing dependence on imported petroleum products.
According to the finance ministry, the discussions covered Honeywell’s technology and equipment solutions for the refinery sector, along with possible financing options involving the US Exim Bank, the US International Development Finance Corporation, export credit agencies and major international banks.
The minister said the initiative could support Pakistan’s energy security, industrial development and longer-term economic growth, the ministry added.
The talks took place during Aurangzeb’s three-day visit to Washington, where he is meeting US officials and financial institutions on trade, investment and economic cooperation. Aurangzeb is also scheduled to meet representatives from the Office of the US Trade Representative, the US Eximbank, the DFC and the International Monetary Fund during the visit. Those meetings are aimed at exploring funding for infrastructure, energy and private-sector projects in Pakistan, according to the finance ministry.
The trip comes as Islamabad and Washington continue negotiations that began last week over tariffs affecting Pakistani exports and a possible framework for a wider trade agreement after global tariff measures announced by US President Donald Trump in April 2025.
