MUZAFFARABAD: PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is set to address his party’s public meeting in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday, alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as the party steps up its campaign in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to a monitored public feed based on Dawn Pakistan’s reporting.
PML-N AJK president Shah Ghulam Qadir said in a video message on Monday that the rally would be held at Khurshid Hasan Khurshid Stadium and that preparations for Sharif’s visit had been completed. He urged party candidates, local government representatives, workers and supporters from across AJK to attend the gathering.
Senior PML-N figures, including Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination Senator Rana Sanaullah and Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, have already reached Muzaffarabad to supervise arrangements. On Monday, Rana Sanaullah, accompanied by PML-N candidate Barrister Iftikhar Gillani, visited major markets in the city and spoke with traders and voters as part of the election campaign.
Qadir said the party would seek a fresh mandate on the basis of its performance and public service record in AJK. He also said the PML-N leadership had stood with the people of Kashmir during difficult times.
The Muzaffarabad rally is scheduled to begin at 4pm, and security has been tightened across the AJK capital.
Separately, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is due to address an election rally in Nakyal in support of party candidate and incumbent Food Minister Javed Iqbal Budhanvi, who will face PML-N candidate Sardar Umair Naeem. Bhutto-Zardari began his AJK election campaign with an unscheduled three-day visit to Muzaffarabad last week, during which he met party leaders at a local hotel.
He has already addressed rallies in Dadyal on July 17 and Kotli city on July 19, and is scheduled to hold two more public meetings after Tuesday — in Mirpur on July 23 and Muzaffarabad on July 24. Sharif is also expected to address another rally in Mirpur later this week.
